Philip Rothman

Philip Rothman’s compositions have been performed by the Utah Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, Maryland Symphony, National Philharmonic of Lithuania, Juilliard Orchestra, New York Youth Symphony, United States Military Academy Band, and numerous other ensembles.

Rothman's endeavors have earned him numerous honors including four ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards, a Renée B. Fisher Foundation Award, the Brian M. Israel Prize, a fellowship from the League of American Orchestras, a Meet The Composer Fund grant, grants from American Music Center, and annual ASCAP Special Awards since 1998.

Alex Freeman

Alex Freeman grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. He studied at the Eastman School of music, where his teachers included Samuel Adler, Warren Benson, Joseph Schwantner, and David Liptak. He then went to Boston to study with Lukas Foss and got his Master's at Boston University, spending two summers teaching young composers at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute with Charles Fussell and Richard Cornell, with whom he also studied during those years. In 1998 he moved to New York to begin his Doctoral studies at the Juilliard School, studying with Christopher Rouse. The recipient of a Fulbright Full Fellowship, he moved to Helsinki in 2001 to research Sibelius's sketches and study composition with Eero Hämeenniemi at the Sibelius Academy. Dr. Freeman now lives in Northfield, MN, and is Assistant Professor of Music in Composition at Carleton College. More information:

Zhao Jiping

Zhao Jiping became internationally known as a composer for such ‘Fifth-Generation’ filmmakers as Chen Kaige, Zhang Yimou and He Ping. Among his most famous film scores are those for Raise the Red Lantern (1991), To Live (1993) and Farewell My Concubine (1993). He is also a noted composer for the concert stage.

We are proud to offer for rental Zhao Jiping's Pipa Concerto No. 2, which was premiered by internationally renowned artist Wu Man and has been performed by orchestras worldwide.

Thomas Cabaniss

Thomas Cabaniss writes for opera, theater, dance, film, and the concert stage. His opera The Sandman played over thirty performances in New York, and he is working a new chamber opera based on a DuBose Heyward play, BRASS ANKLE. He created the score for The Lunch Date (winner of the Academy Award and Palme D'Or for Best Short Film) and Mamba’s Daughters, (winner of an Obie Award and a Drama Desk nomination). Recent chamber music performances include his String Quartet No. 2 - Three Dance Grooves and Tiny Bits of Outrageous Love for piano four hands. He is a member of the Juilliard faculty and he is Composer-in-Residence for Carnegie Hall’s LinkUp orchestra education programs.

Jason Phillips

Jason Phillips is currently the Director of Music at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg, Virginia. From July 2007 to June 2013, he was Director of Music at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic in Brenham, Texas. From 2001 to 2006, Jason served in the United States Army and was twice deployed to Iraq with the 720 Military Police Battalion and 89th Military Police Brigade.

Jason earned his Master's Degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Houston in 2010, and his Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance from California State University Los Angeles in 2000. In addition, he has completed three levels of Kodaly Music Education training at the University of Houston Summer Kodaly Institute.. More information:
